Ok as usual I start with the cover , most books I have reviewed I always look at the cover too, and like the other books , the one thing that drew me into the book was the animals, and how much fun they would be to read about so I suppose it was the cover after all for this one too.. The watercolour scenes were very colourful and inviting to me , and overall , kids will find this book a sure delight and joy to read or to be read too . I absolutely loved Randal in this story , A telling of wanting to try and be something DIFFERENT, the story brought a smile to my face and i would want to read again and again, I thought it was nice that it kind of encourages children to try new things in life , all the scenes and backgrounds were all watercolour and beautifully illustrated , and again not to in your face with brightness . Through the images and backgrounds to the story , brought out more of the characters characteristics and personality , which was fun to see. The characters were all cute and fun , and made my interest in the book grow more , and to see how the two differences , never really stopped one from trying to mix with the other , no matter the differences . Another thing that made this book more interesting was the fact it had some fun fact pages at the back of the book , to help the children learn things about that favourite animal ,the elephant from the book . This is only a short review , as it was only a short book , but i like to make reviews on different types of book s , and being a mother and nanny it's nice to have a few new stories to tell and read. Loved overall book , and would recommend this book to all mothers /fathers with small children .

Ok first of all , the cover of the book was very eye catching , the illustrations were very sweet and very well illustrated , I found all children in my house hold loved this story and when it ended they were disappointed as they wanted more . I think most children will love this small little story , especially if they love gardens and tea parties and animals of all sorts and walking trees , and giant vegetables , and you get introduced to some very friendly characters that's for sure ,this story kind of reminds me of films like doctor do little , excuse my spelling .. but you know what I mean ,. I loved this well written story and even though it was a small book , I don't think it lost any character entertainment , I thought the colour scheme wasn't to in your face so that was pleasing as well. Because some people have sensitive eyes , it wont be to much work for them to look at . but most of all the story of her garden , was a happy one ,. brings a smile to my face . so recommend it to any one with small children , its also a good book to get your child to start when they first start reading , as the pictures will encourage them to continue on , this small adventure . FIRST OF ALL , I READ THIS BOOK TO MY GRANDSON , AND HE ACTUALLY REALLY LOVED IT , I ALSO FOUND IT EASY TO READ , AND UNDERSTAND .
Being a parent and grandparent we see a lot of sadness and depression and worry in our kids and it is so nice to see it in a book for the young ones , just because we all get depressed , sad , and want to cry sometimes whatever age we are , and its nice that a book for kids , is explaining that it is ok to be sad , or cry , or hide . I found the illustrations nicely done , the colours were not to bright and in your face . The story is understable and unique to some people , who live with these problems every day ,so they can relate to it . So I think it is a nicely done story of a little boy that most people with kids can relate to , and the story helps the little people relate to the book , which will make them feel so much better in themselves if they see it in a story book . So overall the story is of real life and children all over the world will read this book and feel relieved to have read it. And children need more books like this , and i'm happy that i read it in a day , and found a touch of sadness for the little boy in the story , and life needs to be more like that story , where there is no pressure , and counsellors are there and more friendly to the children. so well done great little book , love it . I also like that at the back of the book there is a guide for parents or other adults , that they can get help if they need it , and that it caters for more than one age group too. And the guide shows you how to reduce sadness and so forth , there are also resources there to help you in finding help or advice when needed . The book has a part on the illustrator and author section , which i always find an interesting note in that as well. As sometimes it tells you about their depression , or fight through their own growing up . Alos the book isn't too long and does not get boring in any way . I really enjoyed reading this small book . Ok , at first glance the books overall attraction is unique, the warmth of the colour red , is inviting and reassuring , well for me anyway . People don't take the colour of a book into consideration, but this is what draws me in to partly because of the book cover most of the time, and the title too .
Let's Just begin the next part of this review. Through the first chapter, Unity , I must admit, at first I thought it was going to be another space book , boring and stagnate and that I just want to pass it up , but to my surprise , it turned out to be rather exciting , in the way that I just couldn't put it down for ages . I meet some great characters here , some I loved and some I didn't , and the best part is you don't really know at this point who the bad guys really are in this chapter . Moving on , and I really did love the leap between space and New Zealand on earth , such a contrast in the backgrounds , and the obvious people that the story was about at that point in time . I love Jenny , and I kind of relate to Jenny's story before she went to well you know where . I also love how Jenny can do certain things throughout the book and from Gypsies to aliens , space , earth , which pulled me right back into the story especially wanting to get to know Jenny more. Now each chapter is exhilarating , Exciting , tense , thrilling even in a way . In some parts of the book it made me sad , and feel for the characters . You get to know more characters , people being betrayed , and mislead , Aliens that come into the story , even if just for one sentence, one page or so ,We also have the Black Rabbit café , someone is awesome at making Milk shakes, or Milk quakes if you prefer. I like the different species in the story and the different jobs they have, I think the author has had a great time making up the different scenes and species , his imagination must be exploding all over the place . I am looking forward to exploring Jenny's talents now , and can't wait to read more on this part of the story . And you also have some more interesting characters to ,like Thatch and how he was a performer , and good at making things like mechanical toys so to speak . More characters like ASTREA of course is another character I liked a lot to and her father , and the more you get to know them the more you think of them as family , and how you know they are here to help Jenny in some way. And finding out that some were Aeon's , was another exciting turn of events in the story , one has to be my favourite character of this book by far .. So over all , the whole book when I had finished reading it was exciting , adventuress and contrasting with the places you go to as you skip through to each chapter . I felt like it brought out all sorts of emotions throughout the book and one minute I was happy and the next I was sad, or excited , or scared for the characters I was reading about. A good book in my mind is one that gets your emotional roller coaster going. And this book did just that , You jump between different places in space and earth ,through portals and just loved the whole experience. There was always somewhere different and new characters to discover , good or bad , From Talking keys , to Gypsies , Aliens , from space to New Zealand , and from a new earth to another . I will probably reread this book , in my own time this time , and find things that I missed the first time or just forgot. I am glad that I chose this book for my first book to review. Even though it was 448 pages long I thought it would get boring but I am so happy I was so wrong . I can't wait to read more if he actually writes a book 2 of this story , in fact I hope he makes a book 2. I was left a bit disappointed by some of the events in the book , but only wish a certain person could go back and change the events for the best , also , there I have spotted a error to, on page 223 ,12 line up from the bottom , (I'm not sure if this is an error or not, from Kensei to head ). 5 out of 5 stars / 10 out of 10 / AAA* |
