WHISPERS TO A CROW
In the darkness , in the distance , we see light from a tavern in the fog, far away from the usual roads , a place but not for the usual travelers , With No stable and just a beaten up old fence to tie things to , No signs or anything to tell you that they are actually here no name outside, nothing to tell you where you are ,so I suppose they don't want you here, or don't want you to pass on this taverns name to any other. Inside the tavern were two dozen men sitting around , no jokes , no laughter , No talking of any kind , the quiet could really be disturbing until someone spoke , are you a crow . Now when I first read the cover I thought a crow , was a bird , but I obviously never read the details , just looked interesting and I loved the cover , the more I read the better it got , more creepy , and intense , and bloody ... A crow is someone with silver eyes and that is here to do a job , not just any job , nothing like clean your boots or tidy your room , No this was to find out where all the village children went and who was behind it , as they all thought it was the Fae , they were scared of the Fae , and the mystery , that they send for help , they send for a crow to do the job for them , they turn up and go hunting for the signs , and hope to find what they were sent to find , and may be find more than they were expecting . I loved this book , and I would recommend reading it if you like blood , and mystery and suspense , and a crow , not your usual crow , that flies with black wings No No .. A girl with a sword ,. and silver eyes .

Hi everyone thought I would just leave an update on my reviews and where I leave them ,.
Just so you all know when I do reviews here in this blog I also usually leave a review in the following places as well ; *Goodreads (main) *Twitter (main) *Book sirens (only for all boooks on Booksirens ) *This Blog (main) *Amazon ( main) * Instagram (main) *FACEBOOK (not as much) If i have other places i will leave there too . But at the moment these are the only places I will leave at the moment . so if you want a review , in return, would it be to much to ask you to buy me a coffee at the following link To say thank you , as im doing these for free . But a coffee would be great .. and a treat for me . Thank you for coming , and hope to see you again soon . (1) Ko-fi.com - Your Ko-fi Hi my friends I hope you have enjoyed the reads in this blog ,. but as you know , I always like to add a childrens book to this list as well now and then , so this next review is for the people who like reading to the children in your household , a good little book .. and it is sweet ,.. I know at first it seems like a theme is on bulling but i loved it and so I thought to add it here , for you all to enjoy as well . Just because you are small , doesnt mean you are different , polly was smal , and no one wanted to play with her , but because she was small , she saved the day , just remember that every one is different and no matter what you look like that it makes us unique in every sense of the word . Loved this small story and i think you should make this a story apart of your library too . A fun and enchanting modern fairy tale. It says it all in the title . ok ,this was a lovely little story ,. it was a tale of brothers and a girl , and some yarrow bread , its a fairytale story ,only 20 odd pages , If you go into the woods make sure you know where you are going and maybe dont promise to many promises to too many people especially those you dont know . Use the right ingredients and dont use something not asked to use either . But i think the moral of the story is , dont talk to strangers or listen to requests of strangers lol , I will i think re read this , but overall , really good short stroy , something you can read in like 30 mins oir so , on a short break . Loved it . great book Ok by far the smallest book I've ever read .. but it throws a good punch But one of the most interesting ,I don't think some people know they are a feminist until they read something like this , and I am for sure a feminist , in the way that I want woman to get the same level of support in the community as men get , or maybe get that job that they can do just as well as a man can do . I suppose you don't really think about this stuff because like the book says , it is drummed into her heads as kids through our years growing up whether you are male or female and society has taught us in schools and through the actions of our elders how to treat one another . I know I am a feminist because I support the woman , I read most female authors , I listen to mostly female singers and I like to buy from a female shop ... I mean yes I know this doesn't make im a feminist , but I am trying to support them in all there endeavors in society , make it fair that they all get a chance to prove that they have what it takes to do the same jobs most men do or even do it better . so I recommend you read this little book of inspiration and really think what the book is trying to say . Ok I also love what she said in this book and here's an example , (so I decided I would Now be a happy African feminist who dares not hate men ) she has really given us something to think about , and with her honesty and courage to speak out and be herself it should inspire more actions like this Ok , this was a great book of poetry , a small read but that's ok ,as you don't want to many pages of overwhelming rhythms ,its not the usual poems you read in other books but that's what makes it different .. it covers things like nature , food , people , relationships and Friendships and teas , and fruit she also adds things like ( she cradles red hibiscus), I just love this saying and the way she uses word and sentences , and like most of her work , its inspiringly thoughtful , and still being unique , she has talked about even drying her hair , witch smells coconut oil . I love how real it all feels , like it just happened as we speak ... oh one more thing , just so you know some people struggle with the thought of No capitals in her poems , accept for the title , but that is her writing style , its dramatic, I think this adds to the beauty of her work , its great and obviously its her style of writing and its this that caught my attention to read this book in the first place ,so simple to read yet interesting and unique in all its flavors . I love the poems but I must say , a few caught my attention the most and here are my list of favorites ,
Domesticity pg2/3 Self-care is prosperity pg4 A married woman's style guide pg7/8 Rubbing salt pg13 Painting windows pg14 Meditations on the weather pg24 Habit pg31 Three crows pg38 House lizard pg43 Christmas morning pg47 Sunny side up pg49 (this one is about eggs) they all have meaning to her of course , but its all random thoughts to us ,which makes it more interesting I guess . love this book , will deffinetly read again. What drew me to this little book was the illustrations , I fell in love with them as soon as I saw the first pages , I found them adorable and well done . I also loved the fact that the piece of red string went through the whole book from start to the end , following this beautiful described story poem book . It's about friends and loved ones and positive encouragement , kind words
It's a short book but with big words of inspiration and love , I felt happy on reading this to my Gran son who is 3 years old and he actually sat and listened as I read it to him , I think he loved the pictures as much as I did . Great little book , a wonderful keepsake and a lovely reminder of how time fly's and make the most of the little ones while they are little . I may have to buy a hard back copy one day just such a delightful book , kids will love it and parents too My experience in the reading of this book was very mind opening and to think what she had gone through in her life was shocking , As you don't read about some horrors of mental illnesses it hits you hard , and I can also relate to some of the things she writes about , being I to , had Suicidal thoughts once in my life , and a lot of bad stuff happened to me to , but not because of mental illness ... But I can still relate .. Its Memoirs I like to read and experience their life through their eyes , because it lets you see into the world of others and the struggles they come across on their path to maybe rediscovery in some way or another . I loved her openness to tell us about her experiences even the ones that probably took a lot for her to talk about . I will Reread this Memoir again someday , and I would recommend it to any one as well . .. This book was not to short ,and not to overwhelmingly long either in the mental illness area ,it was a fresh clip of some one new , that in places may of seemed funny , but deep down , didn't want to laugh because of the mental illness she was going through it showed us in a window of her life the good the bad and the ugly .... something no one really wants to share at full point anyway , I liked how she went back and forth many years and explained parts of her life that made a change in her in some way even if the change was bad , or ugly ,. and even the good changes , after all she is only human , with feelings that may over flow , emotions you just need to release into the environment and beyond ,she had help from friends and family and eventually let them all in ,Love was there the whole time , she just only noticed some parts of her life and locked out other parts too. I am now A fan of hers and hopefully will read more of her work . Definitely a great read , kept me hooked all the way through . Writing poetry or stories or even doing art is one way addicts and others who have suffered share their pain and turmoil that not just drug addiction brings into their lives and the people it hurts along the way . Sadness and desperation are universal themes in these poems, which often forge a strong emotional connection between the writer and the reader.
Especially if you have had similar frustrations . I loved the poems even though they made me feel sad at times .. but also happy for the thought of my life could have been worse than it is now .. if some one reads these poems .. and feels something then it just shows how much of a connection we all have just by reading this poetry . So this book even though a short read , was an emotional ride , and in places one that I could relate to . nearly crying in places , some of these really broke my heart . but I also felt blessed for where my life is now and where I could of ended up many years ago ., But I feel a connection to some of the poems written in this book , not because of the drugs and the hardships he had gone through to get where he had today , but because of the pain and turmoil he had became and the trail of pain he left in his travels , and looking at yourself in the mirror and not seeing who you really want to see . So I had a connection to him as a writer , and to the feelings that we all hide now and then through our lives . These Poems , were deffinately wrote from his heart and soul , born out of sadness addiction and hardship , these poems have of course that universal theme , that alot of us suffer with some sort of mental illness or issues in our life . we cant just stand there and cry about it , we need to ask for help , otherwise we will all end up down this dark and lonely road . So some of my favorites from this book i loved .. and will re read again and again. Unwilling time traveler (page 20) Add, Easy as I through Z (page 23) I found you (page 35) Beyond Reality (page 38) Running (page) 47 Never again (page) 64 I hope you read this book .. one day . #jmaxwell #soberthoughtsfromthecrazyhouse #poems #emotional #reading #poetry #universal #writing #read #drugsandalcohol #reviews #reviewer #readingtime #reviewing #books #shortreads #bookstagram ok , so this was a very short story 29 pages long , and at first thought the worse and really was hesitate to carry on , but the more I read the more I realized that it wasn't as bad a s I thought it was going to be .
But it is about a young girl who is locked it a basement , she is suppose to be his daughter , who I assume is dead ... but this small girl is not who she seems to be... and I really cant say more otherwise it will ruin the story , very intense sometimes , but good concept . It was a good read and a fast paced story in a basement . Dolls Bones , is a great little book , I was at first a bit bored as it was a bit slow at the beginning , but I'm glad I stuck with it .
to me anyways , as I like fast paced kind of stories . Anyway as I read the more intrigued I was , a haunted doll ashes of a young girl found inside the doll , ghostly dreams with directions on a adventure , pulled along by fear of the doll haunting us for the rest of our life's , we would have to go miles away and find the burial ground to bury this queen , this doll .. cold and hungry wet and scared and alone the soon to be teens would run away on an adventure of a life time . yes , but the weirdest thing was , sometimes when the 3 of them saw anyone like the man on the bus , or the bloke from the donut shop .., they always said there were four kids , not 3 kids , so do you believe in ghosts , and I hope you enjoy reading this review again , only short review because , its a short ish book . but well worth the read . but I will say , they leant a few things on the way . It was a bit sad in places especially learning that it was about a young girl roughly the same age as the 3 in the story , who she was murdered by her father and well you need to read it for yourselves . Now , if you would like to read real life issues and suffering that humans have had to put up with through lock down before and during lock down then this is a small book for you , I loved her honesty and all the poems had ,through this book , I also found that I could very much so relate to this pretty much like most of you guys out there , how the unknown of tomorrow could never feel the same again , she and they talk about the small things we were so used to , the little things we take for granted , now are so far away , out of reach ..now all we do is smile that we even wake up in the morning .
This book made me appreciate those small things to (small beauties ) , and that it made me think more of the small things and how life effects every single choice we make .. I recommend this book and any others at the following link .. they are frankly awesome , and relatable in every way .. check her out at the link below www.dnapubgroup.com/poetry Ps , this is only a small book of 19 pages but a massive impact on my life , knowing that I am not the only one that feels like that and knowing people in my family actually feel this way to . where we have to make adjustments to our life's all the time of how we live and make new habits to make us happy again. I hope you all enjoy this book as much as I did . (great read ). I loved this book , its poetry about being you or me but its emotions and feelings of sadness and tales of life . It does talk about being Black , and I think it tells us of the troubles and hardships of life as a different ethnic person, because our skin is black or brown that gives everyone an excuse to be nasty to them , it is suppose to give some ideas of the events in peoples life's that have made them sad , or frightened , for sure it is about life at home , you know with family , the place you are suppose to feel safe and secure and trust that they will take care of you , but for some this hits home so desperately and I feel the same pain , and misery some that may read this review and still going through alot at home , but there is light at the end of the tunnel .
My favourite poem in this book was holding still on page 41 , a lot of purple things being mentioned in this one , and I just felt drawn in to it more than some others, like amethysts and purple embers and smoke . I love poems with meaning and that touch the heart , that's why I was looking forward to reading this book . As I had been told about it before hand . And then another favourite poem was Fan on page 46 , it spoke kind of happy things and drunken bees , made me smile . If a poetry book , brings out all of our emotions' and makes you think of happy times or sad times then this book is worth buying just for that reason alone . Some of the meanings we might not get but just know , it makes you feel . It isn't a long book , but that's really Okay , as poetry needs to be enjoyed in small doses for sure and this will give you that . But one of the most interesting things about this poetry book was her use of words describing things and days gone and feelings ... the characters in the books were really great to get to know, like In consideration of the black bear on page 47 , sunrises and tidal waves , some of these descriptive word, just wants to make you read them all .. pulls you in . Overall I actually really enjoy this book , and if I have the chance to collect it in paperback it will make my day, I'll add it to my collection I would love to re read it as paperback and put it on my shelf where it belongs . I think she has done a great job in the telling of her poems . And I recommend you all should buy it and add to your own libraries. great book . will definitely reread at a slower pace and once I get a paperback book I will . ok so while this book was short 49 pages to be exact , the lost sisters was an interesting read , at times I got a bit confused to what was going on , and to add more interest in the story , the secrets from all the sisters was revealed later on in the story , I like the setting of the story and the characters build and the most likeable one to me was Taryn who fell in love with a trickster , I also think it was a kind of of love story gone wrong maybe its hard to say ,.. maybe it was a short horror, this e-novella to the New York Times bestselling novel The Cruel Prince, by writer Holly Black. I found it very thrilling and interesting of how things did actually turn out for them .
If you like mortals or not mortals , you will like this book . Faeries and kings and love and hate . its a story with everything in it . Love and marriage , a high king and a witch , and three sisters , one wants to live in the mortal world , one wants to be married , and doesn't want to returnee to the mortal world . as they will go back to there place with No names of there own. I liked this story , infact I love short novellas alot , ok , so this book was so touching and warming , it is about friendship in all its glory , and in all shapes and sizes that they come in , a friend isn't a perfect being its some one that you can relie on , its what ever it is , big or small . I loved the drawings/ illustrations are beautiful and so free of restrictions and just told with such feeling the whole book , is a adventure of getting home , but a little boy wasn't with a bunch of animals he was with a bunch of close friends . It took me a morning to read this , and boy was I pleased I had read it , as its been sitting there for at least a year , I told myself I need to read it soon , so I just picked it up and read it till I finished , and yes , I loved the whole book .. he has a simple way of saying and in a way that most of us would understand , what friendship is and that anything or anyone can be your friends . you don't have to live up to someone's expectations or be something you don't want to be , you are just you ,and they are just they , it is a happy book and makes you hopefully fully appreciate a friend or two . so I would recommend this book to anyone especially those who feel they are not good enough in this world . Published by - Felicia Sanders , Cover design and illustrations by Ayan Saha
First of all , I would of liked the colors to pop more off the page than they did , they seemed more grey scale than bright . The overall illustrations were cute and well drawn , and made me smile . Basically this book is about A group of friends with dreams of going places , and if someone says stop dreaming would you , others should never hold you back whatever your dreams are , and that's exactly what these friends did , planning on a travel journey to a far away land , that usually is too far for this seal to go . This story is for inspiration, it doesn't matter how small or insignificant you think you are , we can all do wonderful and impossible things . I also loved Tina’s inspiration corner too , it offered more knowledge to share with kids of all ages . and free we all like free right , You can also get a Free gift Gustave’s Adventures Vol 1: Just A Seal workbook, if you check out the back of the book . my kids and grandkids loved it . SOUL OF STON
by MICHELE AMITRANI I loved this story from the bottom of my heart , the characters and story line were well thought out , we all believe in myths and about the truth behind them are still unsure , Medusa was a fantastic character brought to life by this author , I read this book and was so sad when it had ended , as I wanted the character to be alive and continue on in another story . Panacea was a really likeable character too , and even thou she was out to kill Medusa at the beginning , she knew the stories of horror and murder were not true as soon as she entered the cave of Medusa , it was there she found a friend and a Mother she had been bitten by Medusas snakes upon entering the cave and after Medusa had realized what had happened , Medusa was mixing up a remedy to help her get better from the bites of her snakes , as she did not intend to hurt her in the first place , Medusa went about her business in collecting moss and water to help heal Panacea , and Panacea observed her in the days ahead , Meanwhile Panacea was observing Medusa , she watched her heal and work magic to strangers that came to her cave for help , she never turned any one away , always willing to help and heal as much as she could and never wanted anything in return . Panacea had ended up wanting to be something she never expected after seeing the wonders of Medusa hands at work , a healer because she wanted to be like Medusa , and help instead of kill and course harm . It also gives a story of revenge that is sweet in the eyes of Panacea . This story is so touching and in places heart breaking but wonderful either way and I hope there is a second book . I would recommend this book for anyone liking myths and such . Its about A small child who hears a noise and then escapes his cot while his family are murdered by a man called jack , the child runs out of his house and up the street he heads to the local graveyard , and there he meets a few ghosts , his mother then appears as a ghost and askes them to protect her baby ..
Nobody Owens is his name now , now known as Bod for short , he is of course a a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a graveyard, being raised by ghosts, with a guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor the world of the dead , somewhere in between if you know what I mean. There are of course dangers lurking around every corner and adventures for Bod in the graveyard too , But it's in the land of the living where the real people are the ones that course pain and heart ache , that's the real danger that lurks in all the shadows , for it is there you can find the murderer of bods family , the man Jack , and he has already killed Bod's family. Each chapter in this book is illustrated by a different artist, with the contributions from (P. Craig) (Russell, Kevin Nowlan ,) (Tony Harris) and (Scott Hamptom ,) (Galen Showman,) (Jill Thompson) and (Stephen B. Scott.) I thoroughly enjoyed this graphic novel , the story was very unique and the characters were to of course , I mean who usually lives in a graveyard not a small boy with a family of ghosts , and that are not even blood related to him . But they are taking responsibility for him as that's what they told his mother after she was murdered . You will enjoy this book just like I did . I loved the adventures Bod goes on , and the people he meets . and just when you think no body ever cares , well I'll leave that bit up to you to discover . Now looking forward to V2 Anika and the difficult drone by kameel Vohra The first thing I noticed was the colour , it was so eye catching , I just wanted to read it , and I knew any kids would love this book so I gave it a shot . The illustrations were so cute , with lots of colour , these were Illustrated by Alvin Adhi , and we love them . basically it is 18 pages long ,very sweet story of a little girl who's not patient and while she should wait for the family to finish being busy , it makes her angry and cry , but the story is be patient as the best things come to those who wait , if anika had just waited she would of had a happier time building her drone . short but sweet story , that my grandkids actually really loved . I also love that at the end of the book , you can ask your kids , or whoever you read the story too , a few Questions as it does give question ideas too . Also a picture order game to , do you remember the order of these pictures . And also join the coloured dots without them crossing is fun and can test the kids too . Overall I thought this book was very sweet , interesting and fun . and meaningful too . which is what you want in a story especially for kids , as it teaches them those life lessons . Ok guys sorry its been a while with the reviews but life happens right , anyway I'm rolling back slowly with the first review this year , and what a book it is guys , you will love it . I Loved this book ,and I just received book 2 which I also started yesterday so , gosh here we go .. I loved it from start to finish , and not just that its a book in a series of around 10 books or more as you can see by the cover she is a detective and works for the state and she also has a side job working for her , I would call him either god father figure or step father , or just a guardian but you will know why when you read the book . so if you love witches with power , covens , vampires , werewolf's , hexes , elemental magic and blood and runes and blood magic and a bit of detective work , than you will love this book . she is the best in her field , and she is called in to work on any case with paranormal connections or a magic connection . she also works for her guardian or god father , killing or getting rid of bad vampires in the districts especially those selling thrills and bad drugs . so this is all I can give you on this one , its not a chunky book but I'm am sure leaving it like this will just make your mouth water to a point where you will go and but it for yourself . look forward to the next book in the series , hopefully not so long away this time , now Christmas is out the way . https://www.amazon.co.uk/kindle-dbs/entity/author/B009SVG9RK?_encoding=UTF8&node=492564011&offset=0&pageSize=12&searchAlias=stripbooks&sort=author-sidecar-rank&page=1&langFilter=default#formatSelectorHeader ok , so reading challenge in 2021 is going to be as follows , below , read a book a week , and see how you get on , some of these I will lost the names of books to make it easier for you all , but other than that its like a treasure hunt lol , have fun , and enjoy what you read, please keep track of what you are reading too ,it makes for an interesting journal reference to how many books you read a year and keep note of which ones you get in the holiday season too . See you soon with my next review guys .
Daughter of Poseidon ; war on the gods .
I though the descriptions and story line were both enticing and really pulled me in to the story , I love the characters so far , but hopefully will meet more and of the same ones in book one , and with the witch Hecate goddess of the crossways and of the witches and of ghosts, she is one of my favorite goddesses . You can't go wrong with stories from myth or at least based on stories from myth , and characters from mythology . Demi goddess Syrena , As since the death of her little sister pearl , not even a year ago now , Syrena has found the gods to be mean and treat the kids of the gods badly , she sets out with the help of Diana her friend , both Demi goddesses , to talk with the fates to see if they in some way can fulfil the prophecy , or help the prophecy be fulfilled by summoning the chosen two to help . They are both leaving friends and family behind as well as loved ones, to may be never see them again , or even to the death for their decisions . And Just to see if they can change the way the world is a long with the rules and beliefs they have been falsed to follow and to change the gods in some way . Even though this is a short introduction to the story , before getting into the book 1 and book 2 . I thoroughly enjoyed the read and will definitely read book one and two . so if you like gods and monsters , and flying horse Pegasus you will love this book , and all books related to this one . I also love the cover , its very pretty , and not to young for the Y A reader or adult reader . 4/5* Barrack Five: A Holocaust Story (Book 1 of the Barracks Series) by Elyse Hoffman (Goodreads Author)17/11/2020 Firstly this book is only 40 ish pages long , so if you are looking for a short good read , then I definitely recommend this one . It was a fascinating story , one of which I always love to read about , it wasn't boring or fast paced , or even slow . It is a historical fiction Novelette and it was so worth the read . It was set in the Holocaust Nazi Germany , a bit sad in places , but just enough to keep me interested . Basically a young man (Vilem ) gets a job of looking after the concentration camp which is in barrack five ,he is told to keep it clean and tidy on his watch other wise he could be fired , and that includes no graffiti by any teens wondering around the grounds . On his watch . he heard a noise , went to investigate and found graffiti on the wooden walls , he thinks he had missed someone on the grounds and decided he wanted to find out who had done it ,the next day ,he finds more graffiti on the same wall as before . He is then contacted by a teen spirit , wanting to tell him of its experiences in the concentration camp and why it hasn't moved on yet . Raya is the spirit , and she has been stuck here because she has so much to tell someone . I cant really say more than this because as it was only a short book , it will give to much away . Or you need to know is , its a good read , friendship between Raya and Vilem and how he helps her . Some ghosts don't stay quiet and just want to be heard and not forgotten Would read book 2 for sure . 4*/5* I wasn't looking to get a vegan diet , just to look at a more healthy option of adding some deserts and snacks to my diet .
Just this book was a quick read , and made me realize that I haven't including many fruits and veg to my diet as it is . For someone that eats Meat , ii wanted to add excitement to my existing menu , and to cater for everyone , this book is for plant based meals , snacks , dips , soups , wraps , and more , it explains how to balance the intake of your proteins in this plant based diet . It helps you focus on the things you need to focus on , and the things you need not to focus on . Helping you create a meal plan , for you and your routines and how not to stray away . I liked the parts of this book which gives you the health benefits like low blood pressure , great for heart and the not so health benefits like low iron , and maybe other Deficiencies , because we all need to know what will be missing in a plant based diet , and what we will get out of it too . i thought this part was very well done . I also like deserts so to see that there were some options was great too . It has great recipes , and nice pictures they are of good quality and bright too, so you can see exactly what you will be eating . Like eggless omelette , vegan baked beans and more . so overall great book , i loved the recipes and preparations for each meal . great book , will use it wisely to add to my lifestyle . recommend to anyone who likes or loves the plant based diets , or to someone like me that just wants to add more healthy eating options to their existing diet already . loved the book . |
